Breathtaking (#2)
It was the look on my father’s face,
of well-worn desire and admiration.
Were there any regrets?
As my mother reached for and then
Relinquished
her final breaths.
It was the look on my father’s face,
somewhere in the middle of denial
and utter disbelief.
I’m not sure he knew what it meant
when he signed
the hospice contract.
Sometimes in life
What takes your breath away
is something you did not expect.
