At Sixty

Perhaps you can remember

when the summers felt forever

and the sky was azure blue

and the days as long

as winter shadows

but crowned with lights

of Christmas Day

and now, as an elderly man,

at 60 I pause to think

about what still shimmers

sunlight dancing on water

sequins on a cocktail dress

and autumn leaves rustling

with a stiff northeasterly wind
