Mortality

Silence is the music of winter

Darkness, the platform it takes

Cold and bitter are the splinters

of Mortality, what it communicates

Dad’s sister, at age ninety-nine,

Now takes on hospice care.

Their generation of the Gillis clan

Will soon be left with one last heir.
