Dormancy

Even into late March

Bermuda grass can pass

for a scratchy sisal rug—

Long-lasting, yes—

but also coarse and monotone.

No songs praise the color tan.

Stable warmth

Is what’s required

to entice the grass

to produce chlorophyll

In sufficient amounts

to turn basic beige into green

A little sun, a little warmth

A little love, a little time

Is all it takes to convert

what’s dormant into new growth
