Intermezzo

Act I

Birth, of which she has no recollection

Intermezzo

“Do you rent or own?”

The question is more complicated

than it first seems.

“I want to own this house forever,” she says,

then acknowledges, regrettably,

her time is limited.

Even those who think they own

are here but for a short term,

simply permitted to live a brief while

on this terrestrial home.

We all rent.

Act II

Death, of which she will not recall
